NVSS MEMBER AWARDS
NVSS knows
the importance of recognizing the outstanding contributions of its members
both on and off the field. There are
six major classes
of recognition, each special and important
in its own way. [* denotes
no longer active; ** denotes deceased.

HALL OF HONOR
The Hall of Honor was established in 2003 to
recognize and reward NVSS members
for noteworthy effort on the organization's behalf. The individuals inducted into the Hall of Honor have
given uncountable volunteer hours and accepted
many responsible tasks to meet the enormous administrative, management and support demands
required to make NVSS the outstanding
success that it is. All honorees meet at least the following criteria:
- 10 Years of
NVSS membership.
- 5 Years of service in at least two positions.
- Individuals who spend longer periods in only one position while donating extreme amounts of time and effort to NVSS may also be considered.
Selection by the current Hall of Honor members.
RECIPIENTS
SERVICE RECOGNITION
The NVSS Service Recognition Award, established in 2011, will be awarded whenever the Board of Directors at its sole discretion sees a need to recognize the accomplishments and//or contributions of an NVSS member or no-mmeber that led to the success of NVSS. The Award may be made on the basis sustained contribution over a period of time or for a single contibution of special significance.
RECIPIENTS
ALL STARS
All Stars are selected annually by their teammates based
solely on their combined offensive and defensive
on-field performances that year, whether or not they are available to play
in the All-Star game that
year.
RECIPIENTS
BILL THOMPSON SPORTSMANSHIP
The NVSS Board established The Bill Thompson
Sportsmanship Award in 2014 to honor Dr. Bill Thompson, a long-time NVSS player noted for his love of
softball, spirited play, and appreciation of his teammates. Winners should exemplify the ideals found
in the NVSS Creed and the Code of Conduct,
recognizing that NVSS is recreational sport promoting
health, fellowship, and fun.
Sportsmanship also means: being supportive of
teammates, acknowledging that your opponent holds similar deep-rooted aspirations and expectations as you,
and affirming that, win or lose, you will walk off the field
with pride for having participated in, not watched, this great team sport.
RECIPIENTS
FAIRFAX COUNTY OUTSTANDING SENIOR
Since
1984, NVSS has nominated members to Fairfax County and the Senior Citizens
Council in celebration of Older
Americans Month. Awardees are
selected based on the length and significance of the NVSS member's contributions to the successful day-to-day operations of
NVSS.
RECIPIENTS
MEMBER LONGEVITY AWARD
The Longevity Awards program was begun in 2003 to recognize and honor long term NVSS members. These awards are presented in increments of 5-year periods — 35, 30, 25, 20, 15 and 10 years. The awards are presented at the Annual Breakfast to those awardees attending this event. The first award [patch and 10 year rocker] is made at the conclusion of 10 total years of full or associate membership [years need not be consecutive, only cumulative], and every 5 years [appropriate rocker] thereafter.
RECIPIENTS
LIFETIME ASSOCIATE
The Lifetime Associate Award
recognizes associate, non-playing members for achieving their
80th birthday and continued association with NVSS. It bestows lifetime
associate membership in NVSS with no further membership fee required.
It recognizes not only an
important life benchmark, but also the longtime dedication of our members
who may have hung up their cleats but stay active and contribute greatly to
NVSS. The only requirement is for eligible members to advise their wish to
remain an Associate member with NVSS.
LIFETIME ASSOCIATE MEMBERS | |
This list is updated annually to add new members who have been awarded Lifetime Associate status (no longer actively playing) that year and to remove members who are no longer with us. | Associate membership and at least 80 to qualify |
