NVSS Conditioning Programs
NVSS offers a variety of programs to help keep members in softball shape year-round. Check the NVSS Calendar for times, locations, and dates. Members are notified by email when registrations are opened.
Fall Conditioning Program
Soon after the Fall softball season ends, from early November through mid-January, NVSS offers two-hour indoor conditioning sessions. Each session starts with exercises, followed by softball specific actions. Members may attend as many sessions as they desire. Online registrations begin in October. Register early as space is limited.
Winter Conditioning Program
As the Fall program ends, this one begins and runs through the end of March. Another fee and registration are required for this program. Online registration begins on January 1st, but you must also sign up for another year of senior softball as all our conditioning programs are just for members. Register early as space is limited.
Spring Conditioning Program
This indoor program is offered twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from February through March at the James Lee Community Center. Free to Fairfax County residents, the county charges all others $100.
The program focuses on preparing members for softball with strength, flexibility, balance, and speed exercises. You’ll also throw and catch. When the weather permits, there is outdoor batting and fielding. No online registration is required, just show up. An e-mail is sent to all members with more details.
August Pickup Games
Between our Summer and Fall seasons, there is batting practice and “pickup” games at Braddock Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This provides a fun opportunity to stay softball sharp while remaining in touch with teammates and friends. Batting practice is typically underway by 9am, followed by a game at 10am.
No registration is required. Just show up. Non-members who want to “sample” senior softball must be eligible to join NVSS and must sign the NVSS waiver.
Batting Practice
On non-playdates (MWF), NVSS batting practices are held at several locations from April through October. The batting practice schedule and locations vary from year to year depending on available volunteers who “host” these events. Details are sent to members via e-mail. Locations, days, and times will also be listed on the NVSS Calendar.
All NVSS batting practices must follow NVSS rules and policies. Pitching screens must be used. Senior bats are NOT allowed.
